Your numbers

Answer each Yes/No question, then fill in the amounts that appear. Use 0 only when an amount is truly zero. Want to see how it works first? Load example numbers below.

Is this a fixed-rate loan with the same payment every month?

Works for a mortgage, car, personal or business loan. Not for adjustable-rate, interest-only or balloon loans, or a line of credit.

The loan amount: the price minus your down payment. For example, 300,000 for a $375,000 home with $75,000 down.
The yearly rate on your loan offer or statement, not the APR. For example, 6.5.
A shorter loan has a higher payment but costs far less interest.
Usually the second month after closing: close in October, first payment December 1. We use it to date every payment and the payoff.
Pick a past year to see where a loan you already have stands.
Do you plan to pay extra toward the loan?

Even a small extra amount cuts years and interest. Answer No to see the regular schedule.
