Business mileage

Your 2026 deduction for business, medical and charity miles, or for your actual vehicle costs. No account needed.

Your numbers

Answer each Yes/No question, then fill in the amounts that appear. Use 0 only when an amount is truly zero. Want to see how it works first? Load example numbers below.

Are you allowed to use the IRS mileage rate for this vehicle?

Usually Yes if you own the vehicle and used the mileage rate in its first business year, or lease it and use the rate for the whole lease. Answer No if you already claimed depreciation or a Section 179 write-off on it, or if you use five or more vehicles at the same time. A tractor-trailer or other heavy truck never qualifies: choose the heavy-truck option below and we use your actual costs (fuel, repairs, insurance, depreciation) instead.

Each purpose has its own IRS rate. Business miles are a business deduction. Medical and charity miles only help if you itemize deductions on Schedule A. The rates are only for cars, vans, pickups and panel trucks.
The IRS mileage rate is only for cars, vans, pickups and panel trucks. For a heavy truck we use your actual costs instead, so answer Yes to the costs question below.
From your mileage log. For example, 3,000. Don’t count driving between home and your regular workplace. The rate is only for cars, vans, pickups and panel trucks. For a tractor-trailer or other heavy truck, track actual costs (fuel, repairs, insurance, depreciation) instead.
Include miles you still expect to drive this year. For example, 3,000. The IRS raised the rates on July 1, 2026.
Did you pay for parking or tolls on these trips?

Don’t include gas, oil or repairs. The mileage rate already covers those.

Do you want to compare with the vehicle’s actual costs?

Required for a heavy truck. Otherwise optional: we show which method gives the larger deduction. If you own the car and use actual costs in its first business year, you can’t switch to the mileage rate later.
