Your numbers

Answer each Yes/No question, then fill in the amounts that appear. Use 0 only when an amount is truly zero. Want to see how it works first? Load example numbers below.

Do you run this business by yourself, with no employees?

This is for people who file taxes as themselves (sole proprietor or single-member LLC). If you have employees or a partner, run an S-Corp, or your spouse is in the plan, the numbers below need adjusting.

This calculator works if: you file taxes as yourself (sole proprietor or single-member LLC); you have no employees; your spouse isn’t in this business’s plan; you have no other business of your own; and any other job is with an unrelated employer. The plan must allow the full contribution and any catch-up. Not for an S-Corp, a partnership or a group of related businesses.
Not sure? A SEP IRA is the simplest to open. A solo 401(k) usually lets you put in the most, especially under about $150,000 of profit. A SIMPLE IRA is for small employers with staff. You can also have a personal IRA alongside any of them.
Income minus business costs for the year. For example, 100,000.
At 50 or older you can put in more. Ages 60 to 63 can put in even more.
Do you also have a job (a W-2) besides this business?
Did you put money into a 401(k) or 403(b) at another job in 2026?
Have you already put money into this business’s retirement plan for 2026?
