How this tracker works

For payments in 2026, you usually send a Form 1099-NEC to each contractor you paid $2,000 or more by cash, check or bank transfer. Through 2025 the limit was $600. Send it to them and the IRS by February 1, 2027. Lawyers: fees for their work follow the same $2,000 rule, but a settlement or other payment you make to a lawyer on someone’s behalf goes on Form 1099-MISC at $600 or more. The $2,000 amount will change with inflation from 2027. Do not store tax ID numbers or W-9 copies here.
